The 40th Race: The London Marathon 2020

05.10.2020 - Jonas
Apart from the Berlin Marathon, the London Marathon is the only European marathon to count among the World Marathon Majors. It should have taken place for the 40th time in April 2020. Then Corona came along, the race was postponed to October 2020 and finally the anniversary race turned into perhaps the craziest London Marathon ever.

While around 50 world-class athletes were able to complete the London Marathon as an elite race on a 2.15 kilometre lap in London's St. James's Park, 43,000 runners competed on their personal London Marathon route. So once again there were many, many laps waiting for me in Edinburgh's Meadows Park.

After the Wings for Life World Run and the Gold Coast Marathon, I deliberately took it a bit slower this time. In the end I was able to stop my watch after 2:52:44 hours, which put me in 299th place overall. Even though a London Marathon start on the streets of London is a completely different experience, I am happy to have participated in the 40th London Marathon and thus to have been part of the anniversary marathon, which was attended by runners from 109 countries.
